Peru's deadliest corridors: 263 thousand speeding detections, analyzed
Between October 2019 and December 2022, SUTRAN speed cameras recorded 263,110 vehicles exceeding the speed limit on Peru's highways. In just two of those years (2020-2021), accidents on those same highways left 1,377 dead and 10,671 injured. DiTrack cross-referenced both official databases, detection by detection, accident by accident. This is what they say.

The five findings
The Panamericana Norte is #1 twice over: in speeding and in deaths.
It concentrates 57% of all detections nationwide (150,823) and is also the corridor with the most fatalities: 306 dead and 2,261 injured in 2020-2021. No other corridor ranks this high on both tables.
The ranking repeats.
The four major corridors rank identically in speeding and in deaths: Panamericana Norte, Panamericana Sur, Longitudinal de la Sierra Sur, Carretera Central. Where people speed most, more people die. (Descriptive correlation on official data; this observatory makes no causal claim.)
The average offender isn't "slightly" over: they're +23 km/h above the limit.
And 1 in 4 detections exceeds the road's limit by more than 30 km/h.
Detections rise every year.
67,833 (2020) → 87,318 (Jan-Oct 2021) → 103,092 (2022) → over 112,000 in just 10 months of 2023 (El Peruano). By March 2025 the count was already 18,000 (Infobae). Enforcement grows, and so does speeding.
Professional fleets drive better than private drivers.
The average excess for a truck is +16.8 km/h and +15.5 for a bus, versus +21.4 for cars (2022, the only year with vehicle type). But "better" is not "good": 11,232 commercial-vehicle detections in one year, with trucks caught at 190-195 km/h in 60 km/h zones.

The data says it: professional drivers speed less than private ones. The difference isn't luck, it's management. Fleets that monitor speed in real time correct the driver before the camera catches them: the alert arrives within the minute, not on a ticket three weeks later. That's why they appear far less in these statistics, and even less in the table that truly matters, the fatality table.

- Validation: 0 duplicates, 0 invalid coordinates, 0 corrupt speed values; 11 of 8,155 accident rows excluded for unreadable numeric fields (0.13%).
- Periods: granular 2019 and 2021 data is partial (Oct 2019 to Oct 2021); 2022 is complete. No year-over-year comparison on this page mixes periods without labeling them.
- Zone names are referential (derived from coordinates, ~1 km radius).
- The detections↔accidents cross-reference groups by corridor family (PE-1N, PE-1S, PE-3S, PE-22) and overlapping windows (2020-2021). It is descriptive, not causal.
